The American GI Forum National Veterans Outreach Program, Inc. is the recognized community leader that serves the needs of the homeless veterans living in the streets of San Antonio, Texas. In addition to the daily service that the organization provides through its Veterans Service Center and the American GI Forum Residential Center for Veterans, the organization also takes the lead in organizing an annual “stand-down” in the days preceding the many Veterans Day celebrations. It is our way of reminding the community that homeless veterans also need to be remembered on this special national holiday.
The Stand-Down is a one-day event especially for homeless veterans and provides access to the services of more than 50 community agencies that provide medical and dental services, hot food, clothing, medical exams, flu shots, haircuts, and a variety of supplies and information. The Stand-Down also provides day-long entertainment, including music and other social activities that help the homeless veterans relax and enjoy the atmosphere of camaraderie and fun for the day.
If you are interested in supporting the Stand Down, please contact the American GI Forum NVOP at (210) 354-4892.
