Please join us for the closing reception of how the Materiality of Death Transfers to the living, a collaborative installation featuring work by Mark Crutsinger, Matthew Anderson, and Jason Eric Gonzales Martinez. The reception will be held Saturday August 12th, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
How the Materiality of Death Transfers to the Living reveals an intimate and lasting engagement with the material world, immersed in the ongoing construction and transformation of personal and collective identities. Material serves as a tool to acknowledge environment, structure, and surroundings creating an art experience through both visual and auditory effects. Crutsinger, Anderson and gonzales martinez work together in an effort to create works not defined by any particular medium, but set into motion their ideas of how materials can create purpose through arrangement, function and balance. This exhibit confronts ideas of modernity, simultaneously pointing to visions of difference and a regard
for the ephemeral and temporal qualities of sculpture and installation. These artists challenge traditional concepts of art making resulting in a constant process of learning how material arrangement functions as an art practice, how the landscape and environment in which the work is presented accepts/rejects the artwork, and the viewers' experience with the exhibit.
