This year’s family-friendly El Grito celebration is alcohol free and will once again spill out onto the streets of San Antonio, featuring a colorful spectacle of live Mexican music, folklorico dancers, authentic craft vendors and food booths.
The event will begin at 5pm and will close at 8pm with the “El Grito” civic ceremony. It will be located at Market Square on Santa Rosa St. between Commerce and Dolorosa.
This musical celebration and historical re-enactment of Mexico’s call for independence from Spain aims at becoming a long-standing tradition and an emblematic event for the entire community, regardless of their background. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mexico’s independence and its culture.
In addition, a donation station will be set up during the event to collect supplies for those affected by Hurricane Harvey, and instructions on how to donate to disaster relief funds will be provided.
