Opening Reception: Friday, January 12th, 2018, 7-10pm
Exhibition on view January 12th — 31st 2018, by appointment only
Collaborative Artist Statement:
Waiting Garden transforms the gallery into a terrarium for reflection, meditation, and solace, by tempting viewers to experience a respite from the hectic present. The installation utilizes color, texture, and pattern drawing from each artist’s independent practice. They are influenced by the current state of the world, and an interest in our internal collective psyche.
Jen and Madeleine worked together remotely, creating work in conversation with one another. Their process relies upon creating work, and later editing and sorting it in the installation when relationships between objects and ideas unfold. This process relies on responding and trusting in what exists at the present moment. The two met in Baltimore, MD, while in graduate school at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and this is their second collaboration. Jen lives and works in San Antonio, TX, where she is Co-Director of Clamp Light Studios & Gallery. Her current work is about self-critique, humor, anxiety and the art-making process. Madeleine lives and works in Brooklyn, NY, where she makes art about the world around her and the world she wants to exist.
