The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center announces the 2018 Inductees into the Conjunto Music Hall of Fame as part of the 37th Annual Tejano Conjunto Festival en San Antonio. The 5-day festival will feature the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Thursday, May 17 at 6:00pm in the historic Guadalupe Theater.
The honorees are:
Alma Garza, Donna, TX and Fresno, CA — host of Radio Bilingüe Latino Public Radio’s top-rated “Onda Tejana” Tex-Mex music program (posthumous)
Emilio Navaira, San Antonio — a leading voice in Tejano music (posthumous)
Felipe Perez, Corpus Christi — accordionist with a 60+ year career span
Samuel Ramos Sr., San Benito — singer/songwriter with Los Tesoros de Samuel Ramos
The event, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, will feature a dinner reception followed by presentations on each of the honorees. Musical performances and tributes by close family and friends including Raulito Navaira, members of Retoño and inductee Felipe Perez will be followed by a dance featuring Bene Medina y el Conjunto Aguila, Gilberto Perez y sus Compadres, and a special appearance by Linda Escobar.
The public is invited to attend this special event. Tickets are $35 per person or two for $60 and can be purchased at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center or online at guadalupeculturalarts.org
